How does educating the girl-child contribute to development?
First of all we should note that we are all human beings. Human beings are supposed to treat each other well; some would like to use the word equality. A human being is never static in terms of growth – they have to manipulate the present moments to make a better future, better than the past and present.
Man and woman are the workers in the fields of development. They should work side by side and encourage each other.
It’s the educated girl, that one day in motherhood will instill respect for girls in his son. She’s the one who will make her son believe in the girl-power towards development – few sons doubt what their mothers tell them. He’ll grow up preaching this word to his friends. Her mother would be an inspiration. This alone will create confidence in many girls. It also leads to self-empowerment among girls. This alone will make the country see into the future with two eyes (both gender). Two eyes is the best option for every country hungry for speedy and quality development. It’s especially suitable for a society that still walks on rough untrimmed terrain of unfairness and greed – a society that hasn’t yet set its foot on the flat and clean tarmac of love and togetherness. Two people will make robust an economy. The girl-child, when no one seems to care at all, will lead the tired crowd listen to their plight and help.
When we don’t educate girls, they are like slaves that we call our own sisters. They’ll not show to the world the power of change, that the world craves for. They’ll show it to their graves—they’ll die with the wisdom.
But imagine a slave working with no fear of the whip on his back! One that deep inside his heart sees that his master is trying hard to scrape the name ‘slave’ of her. This will liberate our sisters.
Whenever we oppress the girl-child by denying her education, we only feign friendship for development. We hurt the development we crave to be closer to. The girls are a part of us, a part of our blood and therefore should be actively involved in change. They’ll in turn make development run towards us faster.
Education to the girl is the only medicinal spoon to their naivety in issues such as reproductive health – education will equip them to better fighting sexual abuse. The girls will have confidence to rebuke bad practices always imposed unto them e.g. FGM, forced marriages, denial of fundamental human rights among others. It’s like showing others how to curb a plague created by one of us. You sprinkle blessings to the society.
Insults in marriages usually break them. Good education is the best medicine for orderly families. It’s one way to curb tensions within the family that deal a blow to development. Educating a girl hooks a dozen others into education too. Educate girls, to bring development closer home
